I'm new to mastercam and I've been able to figure out cutter comp when milling a profile but not with a pocket. Everything is OK until it takes the finish cut and then it digs in???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ray,

So would you suppose you are having trouble with creating an allowance for the tool approach? Cutter comp is cutter comp, and if you've mastered it for a profile, then a pocket is really no different. But, you must make allowance for the tool to move into position on the cut line. This means choosing a start point that is at least the cutter radius away from any finished surface. Usually, people would start even a little farther away, with a short straight line movement, then a radius that blends into the final path.

You need to be using the proper kind of cutter comp as well. That can be a whole "nother can o' worms t' open :)

Check your lead in/out reduce the % to tool dia.
That should take care of that.

PEACE:D

A basic Pocket rutine does not aloow cutter comp untill the end for the finish passes.
So if Finish passes on the third paramater page is not checked on and you nned to have it on wear.

But as Hardmill stated check and make sure the box next to Leadin/leadout is checked then hit the button and set what you want for your lead in leadout.

As I stated in the start this only works and the end of the pcket cycle to finish the walls.
