I know all about the joys of putting the Dc brushed servo on the Knee.
Currently we have binned the geckos and gone with some other drives, X and Y work perfectly.

We have a series two Bridgeport mill with a VFD driven spindle and the x and y driven through 1:3 belt reduction with MCG ID30004 motors with 250 count encoders.

The Z, at this i feel like borrowing the SEW 3kw Ac servos and drive controllers from work.

Currently the z axis is driven through 1:6 reduction belt drive and has some issues. The z axis is using the acme thread still, haven't ballscrewed it yet.

The Joys!!

Hello IJ..

Congrats on a great conversion.

I have a Knee Mill (different head) and considering using the Quill for conversion similar to your conversion. I would like to obtain some information and if possible to talk to you about converting the quill.

If you could email me at frans@syil.com.au it would be appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

cheers

Frans
