View Full Version : Need someone to program a part! (3d)
JFettig 05-05-2004, 08:11 PM Hey guys, Im in a little bind, I am making this part for a 3.5hp briggs intake, It basicly attaches the breather tube back to the intake and I thought I mite as well make it like its ported, put a nice radious on it. The problem is that I need someone to program it for me.
I dont have the software or the knowledge.
I will be using a 1/8" ball end mill and .01" steps, thats about the maximum depth I can take. This is 6061 aluminum.(I still have to set up new pullies for the machine for more torque)
I would cut the hole and the contour and drill the holes myself, all I need is some G-code to make that radious with the 1/8 ball mill
Help me please!:)
Heres the drawing, autocad 2000 format dxf
duluthboat 05-05-2004, 08:20 PM Give me a few mins.
Gary :D
JFettig 05-05-2004, 08:25 PM sweet! thanx!
Wait a second, I totally forgot to put my stock around it and zero it in the drawing.
JFettig 05-05-2004, 08:29 PM heres the new one I need it in 2x1.5" stock.
duluthboat 05-05-2004, 08:52 PM I can do it but not tonight. How soon do you need it.
Gary
JFettig 05-05-2004, 08:53 PM uh, at the latest, this weekend.
Thanks a ton man:)
Jon
duluthboat 05-05-2004, 09:25 PM Will your machime cut in XYZ at the same time? We should take this to e-mail. decoy@infionline.net
Gary :D
duluthboat 05-05-2004, 10:58 PM I found a little time is this what it should look like?
Gary :D
JFettig 05-05-2004, 11:10 PM sweet! I have the holes covered,
Did you have it do the center? that wont be there because I plan on milling it out of there before I do the radious.
Thanx dude!
Jon
JFettig 05-05-2004, 11:13 PM oh, is there a chance we can mill around the holes so I don't have to counterboar them or something?
If its too much work for ya, dont worry about it, maybe I could just draw that up.
Jon
duluthboat 05-05-2004, 11:18 PM Got yah. I cut the center hole so the rest would cut right. I'll just cut that part of the code out. I'll send you a first run and we may have play with it.
Gary :D
JFettig 05-05-2004, 11:21 PM :D maybe something like this?
btw, does this take you long? hope your not going out of your way for me.
thanx a ton dude, I really apreciate it. What prog are you using?
duluthboat 05-06-2004, 01:26 AM Just a quick addition to this thread, I hope the code I wrote for Jon will run for him. His request came at a time when I needed something to do while I was running a long program. I consider it a training exercise. As much as I would like to I won’t always have time to do this. I also don’t want to take work away from others. So please don’t be disappointed if I turn down future requests.

turmite 05-06-2004, 09:16 AM Gary now is a fine time to tell us. I already have my list ready:D .
I think it is a fine thing you did and I would hope that we could all help like that at some time or maybe at another time!:D
You have been very helpful to many here and I hope Paul lets you stay!!
Mike
ps I'm still trying to get my trim application to work.
duluthboat 05-06-2004, 05:35 PM A little better?
Gary
...and I hope Paul lets you stay!!
We've been considering it, but he sure is a trouble-maker, and never does anything for anyone. :D
Maybe if he performs some kind of good deed we'll reconsider.. ;)
j/k, Gary is a great guy, as you have seen. We woudn't let him leave even if he wanted to leave!

Your icon reminds me of John Goodman the actor in roseanne
JFettig 05-06-2004, 11:14 PM well I got the peice made, I ended up turning a type of a radius on my lathe, kinda a stepped radious but its still good, not the same but itll do;)

Sanghera 05-07-2004, 04:21 PM Hi all, great post.
I was just wondering if someone could help me out here. I was wondering how to program a part like this in Mastercam. What settings would I use? Parallal, Contour?
Thanks.
P.S. Do I have you permission to use your carbintake on another post, like the Mastercam Forum JFettig?
Thanks. :):):):):):):rainfro:
duluthboat 05-07-2004, 04:48 PM First I’m on the run and will make this short and add to it later, maybe Sun.
You all will now have to picture a smiley face all deflated and flat. I should know better than to do things in a rush. Despite my best efforts to side track Jon he found a way to complete his part.
I made a few mistakes and will share them here when I get the time. The good news is I always learn something from my mistakes and maybe I can save a few of you from the same misstep.
Gary
JFettig 05-07-2004, 11:55 PM turmite: The outside contour of the part has been flapwheeled, it had some stuff on it that I probably could have cleaned up by using a finishing pass that I didnt:p
Sanghera: you mean basicly to try to program it? or to actually make it? well I guess I dont really care, just give me credit for the drawing and link me:)
-edit- Ill get completed pics of the part, I went about using a drill press to drill the holes because I still needed to familiarize myself with the G83 code and my machine:p
Jon
Sanghera 05-08-2004, 03:05 AM What do ya mean link me?
Thanks.
JFettig 05-08-2004, 09:07 AM link me to the thread,
