Ok, I have a following problem:
I am in a need of a CNC lathe that has a 700 mm turning lenght and small diameter of turning, max 50 mm. Anyone knows of such kind of machine? I wasnt succesfull of finding any on the net, used or new.

I have to mention that I cant use bar feeder because bar that is gonna be machined will be handled by robot and isnt possible for us to program robot for feeding the bar thru spindle hole, one reason is available space so bar has to be positioned between two quill tapers, one at tailstock and one hold by a chuck.
Machining that will be done on the bar will be only 13 mm at one end.

Any suggestions on solving the problem are welcome!

For that application I would not use a lathe,I would get a facing and centring machine.Don`t be put off by the name,they do milling,threading,turning and various other ops.Bar is held by automatic vices and heads at the end do the machining.There are cam operated and cnc ones available.Common makes are Giddings & Lewis and Hey and another one whose name escapes me at the moment.

700 mm is a bit less than 28 inches and 50 mm is about 2 inches. I have a Haas toolroom lathe, TL1, that can take 30 inches between centers and can turn up to 8 inches over the cross slide. Go to the Haas website http://www.haascnc.com and have a look at this machine.

Well, Im not looking for that kind of machine Geof...It has to have small turning diameter...I wouldnt have a problem finding machine that has 700 mm lenght and big turning diameter:) anyway, i dont like hass machines, dont have good experience with them...

You must have a lathe with a 50mm swing? Why? Are you setting it up in a filing cabinet? :D

i dont understand either why it cannot have larger turning diameter than 50mm?

With 8 inch travel on crosslide you can do 50mm and bigger if there would be need, with 2 inch travel... thats all you can do, you cant go bigger...

i dont need to go bigger...its all I need...it doesnt have to be that small, but 8 inches is too much...like i said...machine is only gonna be used in automated production...1 lathe and mill and 2 robots...space is of high importance so...smaller machine the better....

What about a swiss lathe? I've seen some of the stuff people make on them - long, thin parts that would be very difficult to do with a tailstock. They've got a small swing and a long turning length, if you can run your jobs on one.

They often do fully automatic work, including backwork and milling, and are more rigid/accurate than a turret lathe.

swiss lathe would be an overkill:) I only need to machine a small part of a tube..some 13 mm at one end, thats it..dont need all the operations that swiss lathes can do...I i think they arent any out there that have 700 mm between centers...correct me if im wrong...

with the 50mm Dia. you maybe should something like "Spanntop" from http://www.hainbuch.de/ or www.forkardt.de (http://www.forkardt.de/products/colletchucks/index.html) or others.

Those give more room than a "standart chuck" and has very good concentricity!
