Is anyone out there running Mach3 on their TriPower with a LAPTOP? If so, I'd be interested in knowing which one; make, model, O/S, etc.

Thanks for your input.

Not on aTri-Power but on my homemade machine. No problems except for having to stop the screensaver and powerdown aspects. I quit using it and got an old desktop just to keep the dust out of the laptop. Its a Toshiba A-75.

I briefly ran Mach 3 on an old (1999) dedicated Dell Latitude CPi-R. This is a 400 Mhz machine w/256M, and a very clean install of XP. I had no trouble generating 25kHz, but eventually switched to an old desktop to get the 45kHz pulse rate. My CNC is a DIY benchtop model.

Do you already have a laptop or are you looking to buy one? I wouldn't think it would take that much computing power. Of course more is always better.

I *thought* I was generating 25,000 pulses/second on that machine, but was probably actually operating much lower. Lately I have found that my 800 Mhz desktop is cpu bound at about 1/2 that (13K pulses). This leads to all kinds of poor performance, especially motor stalling. While Mach will run on slower machines, don't expect to push your feed rates very hard.

I'm running a 5 year old Compaq 2Ghz laptop running WinXP at 45Khz with no problems at all. Homemade router with gecko's.

Hope this helps.
