I have a HF 9x20 lathe and I was able to pick up a used Logan 8" 4 jaw chuck today. I know I need an adapter plate, but I am not sure where or even what to purchase. Once I find the right adapter what will I need to do to make it work? I am a newbie and trying to learn. Thanks for all your help!

8" may be too large for the 9x20. In addition to the issue of weight, the problem is that as you open the jaws they stick out past the edge of the chuck. With an 8" chuck on a 9" lathe, you could only open the jaws until the stick out about 1/2" before hitting the ways.

I have a 5" chuck on mine and a few people have used 6" but those are about the limit of capacity in terms of weight.

I use an 8" chuck on my 12" lathe.

I have a logan 9" lathe and a 9x20, I think alan is right, you will not be ale to use it all the way out. I am trying to adapt my 5" chuck from my logan to work on the 9x20 if ever needed, I am looking to buy a back plate and tread an adaptor into it. The logan is 1 1/2 by 8 and the 9x20 is metric 39mm x .8 I think I may have the 9x20 size wrong. So you would have to make a male to male chuck plate.

Most of the 9x20 are threaded 39mm x 4mm pitch, however, the Jet and a few other special imports are threaded 1 1/2" x 8tpi.

i knew it was something like that, I never new that jet had a standard thread on theres, that would make life alot easier.
