I recently acquired a free Sanford surface grinder model MG. The machine is currently in pieces and I have plans to make it as close to new as possible. Unfortunately, nothing is without a price, and conspicuously missing from the machine is the Z axis hand wheel. Since I cannot find anyone with a handle, my plan is to make one.

Long story short, I am looking for information about what this hand wheel is supposed to be. IE total number of graduations, diameter and width.

Also, if anyone has done a similar project and wishes to share some tips they would be greatly appreciated.

diameter and width can be whatever will work and you like.
for the graduations, use an indicator to find how far the wheel moves down with one revolution. divide this number by the desired resolution, say .0001 to find the number of graduations necessary on the handwheel.
