I am having a problem with spindle speed. When I program a speed manually the control gives me an error spindle not up to speed and it shuts off the spindle. If I program a tool change the spindle goes to max rpm and I have to e-stop to stop it.Could the encoder be bad or the encoder belt? The last job on the machine was on that involved tapping.Could I have activated a command that is messing up my spindle speed? What is involved in changing the encoder and or belt?Appreciate any help on this,George.

George,
If you turn the spindle by hand will it show a spindle speed on the screen?
It should. If not it probably is a bad spindle encoder or belt. It is very rare to see a bad belt but I cannot rule it out. Make sure you get a Heidenhain encoder for the spindle. It will have a life expectancy far greater than the cheap one I have seen installed in these machines.
If you do see a spindle speed when you turn the spindle by hand, you still may have an issue with the encoder, but also an issue with the Yaskawa drive or the parameters (BMDC board and/or Yaskawa).
