Hello, I am new to this forum and am hoping for some advice.

We have a 1999 SL-20 that generally works very well. However, sometimes when it is being powered up, the turret doesn't seat after going around to tool 1. This never happens during normal operation, just once in a while when powering up.

Any thoughts out there?

We have a HL1 that behaved the same sometimes; then it stopped doing it. I figured it was just a sticky switch. When the turret rotates on Auto Restart after power up the controller is looking for a switch to open or close to signal tool position 1, if the switch was a bit slow in operating then the turret may rotate a little bit too far the the locking teeth to engage so when it tries to seat it hangs up on the teeth.

i am pretty sure that the hl-1s had limit switches in the cam box that were on the end of the shaft that moves in and out the sl series starting having proximity sensors on the air cylinder for turret in and out but still used some limit switches for homing out until later when i think they use all proximity now. does the turret alarm out when it is out or does it come back in and then alarm what is the alarm #.

I'll try and get the details from the operator next week.

Thanks for responding. You sound like you have been around these machines for a while.

If you take the back cover off your 1999 lathe, you will see 2 air switches mounted on the frame of the machine. They have solenoids on both ends.
The ones on my machine are made by norgren. I have had the solenoids go out time after time. Haas will only sell you the whole valve, but if you find a norgen dealer, you can get em much cheaper. From your explanation it may just be a sticky valve, and not the solenoids burning up like in mine.
Good luck with it...
