heyho
im trying to figure out how to cut metric threads on this old chipmaster lathe and was wondering if anyone is familier with it.
the charts from it is missing, but according to this url i have the "joystick" gearbox = can cut metric threads.

Hi Kamel
You have what they called a Continental machine & it is all Metrc & is
easy to set up if you are having a problem cutting metric it may have
the change wheels set for english threads
The change wheels on the Head need to be starting at the spindle are
28-68-48 (teeth on the gears)
Then B-3 for your levers should give you 1mm Pitch
The Screw Drive lever needs to be in the belt drive which is up
for that lever & the head in low Gear I think the head can be high
or low gear
I may be able to make a copy of a thread chart I have in a manual I have.
I have the English Chipmaster so the plates for the threading are different
to the Continental machine
What Pitch were you trying to cut

If you could make a copy that would be very appreciated.

Hi Kkamel
The 1.5 mm Pitch is C1 same gear set I could not see .75 pitch
.5 is C3 .7 is B6
There is other Gear Set that will work to, let me know what Gears
you have.

hi
today i checked what gears were in, starting at the spindle it was 36, 89, 51(or 57) is this used for imperial threads?
these are the additional gears im having 48, 44, 56, 52, 69, 60, 28, 24, 42, 66, 20, 30, 70 so it seems im missing the 68tooth gear from your configuration :(
Do you know of any other combination that will work? The manual you have is it for a continetal or is it for the english version?
Some of the gears were colored red and some were yellow does this mean something?

Hi Kkamel
The Gears you have are mostly for English Threads
There is another set for metric it is 44-56-60
.4 Pitch C-5
.5 C-3
.6 C-1
.7 B-6
.8 B-5
.9 B-4
This is all you get with these Gears
Yes I have the English & Continetal is all in the same manual
You need the 68 tooth gear you get the most metric threads
from 28-68-48 set
this will do from 0.35 to 6mm pitch
You may have 1 gear set that has 2 gears in together if you do it
will be the 68-56 which is also used for English threads most
of the gears you have are for English threads but if you have
the 68 you have the metric set to

hey
you were right i found the missing 68 tooth gear it was stamped as 89 and already setup in the mashine, and as you said it was a double gear 68/56 so i guess i got em all.
To bad there werent more of the pitches that i wanted. Were did you get your manuel btw did it come with the mashine or to you know of someplace that sells reprints?

Hi KKamel
I will try and copy the pages you need my scanner is not working so may take me a while to get it done
You can also calculate what gears are needed for different Pitch threads with the gears you have I think you can do everything you should ever want.
You can do
29 metric threads
15 metric module threads
31 English threads
All these are standard with the gears you have the different threads you want to do you can calculate the gears to use
My book is a copy that I got from the 600 group
Your link to the UK Lathes they have it but I would ask if it has
the Continetal thread cutting pages in it before buying it
