Hey Andy if you are reading this, I was just wondering if this is possible, the reason I am asking is this :

I have to admit I am now a linux convert, thanks to EMC which I tried, and then liked Ubuntu so much as an OS I dl'd the full desktop version and was even more impressed and setup a dedicated workstation with it.

Now you can prob see where this is going, I still need a few things with windows, namely Autosketch, DeskCNC and now a great little program called CAMBAM :)

I intend to install a virtual machine of Win98 to run these, namely for speed as it requires low overheads.

I am guessing .NET framework may be the sticking point ?

From what I've read, CamBam should work on Win98.

This is a quote from the first post about CamBam.
It is a .NET windows application which requires at least framework
version 1.1.
I would suggest that you download version 2.0 of the .Net framework, for any possible future upgrades.

I would try it out for you, but I had so many bad memories of windows 98 I think I must have nailed all my win98 media to a tree or something.

As switcher says, the .NET 2 framework still seems to support win98. (CamBam is all framework 2 now).

In a couple of months, I will have a lot more time to devote to CamBam and will take that oppertunity to experiment further with mono.

Kudos for making the break from windows. Linux has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years. I just wish more hardware manufacturers would realise that. :stickpoke

Well it is a work in progress, as I type this, Windows is installing (it thinks :)), I will attempt to install the .NET side of things tomorrow, bit late now, will keep you posted :D

QEMU? Curious to see how this all turns out. How powerful is that machine?

I'm running XP guest in VirtualBox with ubuntu host. Modest specs, budget 2GHz AMD, 512 RAM. Speed in windows is ok for my needs. Downloaded cambam but haven't tried it in the VM so far. Expect it will run fast enough.

Machine is an AMD 2 gig, but with only 256 Meg of RAM, I have some more lying around somewhere, just have to locate it (recently moved house).

I haven't got back to finishing off the install, hopefully on the weekend.

I let 98 have 64 meg of RAM, should OK for now, until I can find some more. I picked 98 as it isn't resource hungry, just so long as it works...
