Upon powering up the machine the turret turns endlessly not allowing me to do anything.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

If it is a pre-2002 (or somewhere around there) machine you probably have a faulty microswitch.

If it is a later model machine you probably have a chip stuck to the proximity sensor.

In both cases you need you need to take the covers off to find the microswitch or proxomity sensor(s). There will probably be two; one is the turret position #1 sensor the other is the one that counts tool positions.

If it is a microswitch try my favorite remedy...hit it a few sharp raps with a plastic hammer to see if you can knock the contacts free inside free; it does work, honest :) . (Sometimes)

If it is a proximity sensor with a chip on it that will be obvious and you just clean it.

Thanks Goef, I will sound ignorant by asking you this, but where can I find these covers? (I'm not the owner of the machine, just a young operator with only a couple months experience)

The Haas Lathe model is SL10

I would have to look at a machine to be sure but from memory I think you can take off a cover right behind the turret.

I will be going in to my shop tomorrow and will try to remember to have a look at the SL10.

You need to access the rear of the machiine to open theturret covers. there are also 8 or 10 screws on the front. tale off the top cover. It slides out the rear.
