Anybody know of a source for an X1 micro mill in Canada? So far, all I've found is the X2 mini mill at Princess Auto, at an outrageous premium. Blech.

Thanks,
David

no there is no x1 in canada and its trully sad to see that even if the canadian dollar is at a high value currently compared to the american dollar the business here in canada arent adjusting there price in acordance

Yeah, it's really irritating. It's not so bad when it comes to other (smaller) items, but shipping heavy machinery is pretty expensive when done personally. I can't see why an importer/dealer in Canada would have to charge that much more. I could see things being a little more expensive due to the smaller market/volumes, but not a 200% premium.

They don't seem to have an X1 on their site (and if it was $1000 it would be a ripoff). They do have an X2 for $1095 CDN, but I'd get the PrincessAuto one for $1000 (or $849 on sale) first.

The Busybee has a round column and isn't really CNC'able, right? Plus I don't need/can't easily handle one that big. An X2 at a decent price would do, though the CNC conversion looks like a bit of a pain without spending big bucks, or I'd take an X1 even though it's quite limited.

I'd take either at a non ripoff price....just can't find that. :P

The mill at the House Of Tools was so small I Thought it was an X1.
If it is an X2 do not waste your money.
I have a Taig mill that is more machine than those.
and they are very easy to CNC.
Have you considered A Taig? They are in about the same price range.

There's one that's been sitting in the local P.A. for the last month, so it probably depends on which store.

@Speedygonzales, it's a standard mini mill made by Seig. There's some good info on http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_mill/Main/mini-mill.htm
Not the easiest mill to CNC, due to the rack and pinion head, but there are conversion kits.

@Mark, have you ever used an X2 or X1 to compare your Taig? I like the Taigs and would probably get one over an X2 from P.A., but my budget range is a bit tight for one...

No I haven't used an X1 or an X2 , just saw the one at House of Tools.
I looked at the House of Tools mill because I need a second mill
but decided it would be a step down from the Taig mill and was looking for a larger machine.
I do wish there were more options here in canada.
I may end up getting the Busy Bee mill.
The motor is 110/220 volt and it looks straight foward to CNC
I think I can get 4 13/16 Z travel without moving the head on the round
colum.

darkith.
The X1 mill is available from several sources in the states.
I bought my X2 from cummins for about $390 US and my 7x14 lathe
from micromark for about 450 US plus 80 US for shipping. I had these
machines sent to Blaine, Wash. to an outfit that receives mail and
freight for canadians for a small fee. A week after their arrival
my boss went down there and picked them up paying only PST and
GST, no duty. I know I saved myself about $ 1000 CAN.

the problem with ordering from the states it mostly if you end up having problem with the machine part will have to come true duty each time you wait for them so the waiting period where the material goes true duty may end up costing you also in my case i often go to Quebec city so it is easy for me to go to garant or for my dad to go as he live in Quebec to get part i also like the fact that i had the possibility to go there and be able to meet in person the seller who sold me the machine but you are right you can save alot of money if you go and pick it up your self in the state by saving duty time and fee and the broker fee
