We are experiencing an intermittant spindle cable fault on our VF-3. having replaced the encoder as well as a circuitboard for 3000€ we would like to know if anybody else has had this problem. (thought this might be cheaper than having the HAAS service tech replace the entire machine piece by piece until he locates the problem... ;-)

make sure the belt on the encoder is not loose.

usually a cable fault is just what it is a cable fault on the spindle encoder the cable part # is 33-1000b or c depending on what type of encoder you have sometimes you can have a bad ground on the shield of the cable how old is the machine? what type of encoder do you have. the strain relief on the headstock wiring of the haas machines leaves a lot to be desired a lot of times the wires pull up through the z duct and strain the connector on the encoder.

we´ve replaced the encoder and belt before the circuit board was replaced. since then the alarms are few but still a pain in the butt.

trust but verify ... sometimes techs miss stuff too. I would check the belt tension on the encoder

you never mentioned replacing the cable
