Hello,
When facemilling, I set the initial Z surface at .13, final Z surface at .08, machine starts , but stops at .13 above surface. Should it be set at initial Z 0.00 final Z .05. If not, what, or how, should it be set up. Also, after facemilling, I then need to do a goround, what would the proper setting be there. I would think you would have to set contour depth at .13 since that is the original depth of material at start.
Hope I explained my problem correctly, I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks,
Kevin

not shure what your problem is ,but is it a post processor problem?
or is it confined to the simulator
look at the code to see whats going on or post it up no m6 or similar applied?
what machine you running it on

Hi Kevin,
I think you had it set right if the original material thickness is .13 and you want to face off .050". Do you have a Z final finish allowance set? If the allowance for the Z final finish is set to a value greater than the amount to be machined then I think there will be no cutting moves made in the program. If the final finish is set to 0.0 the program should execute as expected, or you can set it to say a .040 finish allowance cut for the final pass.
I think for the contour you will want to use the actual depth of the material to be machined(.080 if I am thinking right) or actually a bit more for a clean cut.

Looks like maybe the Z final finish allowance is not an option in the facemilling section but it does affect the contour cutting.

just set z datum at the top of the job and give a minus number
i.e if you want to remove .5 set initial z surface to 0 and final z surface to -.5
still not understanding your problem

Kevin, all the answers above should have helped to fix the problem, if we understood right. Please let us know if it did or didn't, so that we can get this figured out for you.

Hello All,
I was out of town since I posted the problem. I thank everyone for their great responses. I used your advise, both methods worked. I set final cut at 0.0 and it worked fine, had to set contour depth to original thickness of material, to get the right depth of cut. The setting of z-datum worked also.
Thanks for your help,
