I have just received my new machine, but will not have it together for a week or two. I have no CNC or CAD/CAM experience. Is there anyone in NW Montana that might give me a bit of help? I will trade machine time in exchange for knowledge.

Hey, I'm in Casper WY. I have 2 years experience as a CNC operator, and an A.S. in Machine Tool Technology with four semesters of programming experience (we program our projects individually then machine them on a Haas VF-1). If I can provide you with any help, I'll be happy to oblige.

WYLD,
Thanks for the speedy reply. We may be too far apart for much direct help. I will check the local community college for any CAD/CAM courses this fall. You may be of considerable help to me once I learn some of the language. I'll be in touch. John Werre kokoprod@cyberport.net

Have you already picked CAM software or are you in the process of deciding what to use? What sorts of projects do you have in mind?

Mike,
I purchased the whole package from Tormach, complete with computer and installed software, CAD/CAM. Haven't unpacked much, yet, still have to inventory. I have a few small simple tools to make which are currently done on conventional machines, but am presently prototyping two new items for patent consideration. My intent is to use the machine for prototyping, perhaps some light production if the patents work out. If things go well I will have developed the software for someone else to manufacture. Where are you located? :)

Hi John,

Which CAD/CAM package(s) did you get? I'd been using Alibre for a couple of years before getting a Tormach mill and got SprutCAM with the mill.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs, which is pretty far from Montana. Prettier location, though <g>.
