View Full Version : Is it legal to mix inch and metric ball screws? dmgdesigns 04-13-2004, 10:21 AM  buscht 04-13-2004, 10:27 AM Yes, it doesn't matter as long as the ball screw and ball nut match. Each axis can be different. I use TurboCNC and it allows you to set up each axis independantly. You may get a different top speed out of each ball screw however and your accel and decel may be different. HuFlungDung 04-13-2004, 10:33 AM One precaution is to check that the controller software can still do circular interpolation with different pitch ballscrews. dmgdesigns 04-13-2004, 11:00 AM Thanks for the info. Hu This may be impossible to answer but of the most popular controller software I see on this site which will not work with mixed ball screws? Al_The_Man 04-13-2004, 11:52 AM Just about all of the systems I have used that use encoder feedback simply accept the number of counts equal to the unit of the system you are using, i.e. counts/inch. So it is usually immaterial what the ballscrew lead is. Al |
