I just bought a '91 Fadal with coolant through the spindle. Standing at the back of the machine there are two pumps. It appears the one on the left is the coolant through pump, which goes to a filter. The one on the right, which I assume is flood coolant, has a pipe sticking straight up coming out of the coolant tank and for the life of me I cannot find where the hose should go. Any help? Also, does it sound like I have the pumps correct?

Sorry the only manuals I have are .pdf and they are much newer than the machine.

Thanks,
Don

It appears that I was wrong; the pump on the left is the coolant pump, which is run through the filter. The line to the through coolant was cut right around the base of the cabinet. Any thoughts on that one? Makes me a little nervous about repairing it and hooking it up.

Thanks,
Don

don,

You'll just need to trace the hoses to see where they go.
Coolant thru goes up to the top of the head.
Regular coolant goes to the valve on the side of the head.

Usually M7 turns on coolant thru, M8 turns on external coolant, M9 off.

The pump with the larger pressure rating is for the Thru Spindle Coolant. You also have to run the coolant for the Thru Spindle Coolant thru the filter. If you don't you will have problems with clogged tooling and messed up spindle. The main coolant does not need a filter as the lines are large enough to accomodate most debris.
