Need someone to get me this DVD from UK Matsuura . I found this article the other day from http://www.manufacturingtalk.com/news/muu/muu111.html
A free 'edited highlights' DVD is available of the V8 being machined on the MAM72-63V.
Anyone based in the UK or Eire wishing to order a copy please contact.

I have seen part of this on Utube but I am putting together a presentation and could use a DVD. Might not be available any more...or be more trouble than its worth. I would need it shipped to the US..so you tell me the terms.
Thanks,
Gary

ImanCarrot,
There is a program...youtube grabber. Then you open it with another program called flvplayer. It works but with all of the conversions it is small and a lot lower quality.
Thats why when I found the link offering a DVD I thought that's the way to go.
Now as soon as someone goes in to pickup their own MAM they can just grab me a DVD:D

Aha! I didn't understand they were offering a free DVD to UK companies... I got you now.

I've E-Mailed their Sales Dept for a free DVD and shall let you know what happens. If they get back to me you're more than welcome to it :)

Right, the company 'phoned me on Friday- CD is in the post, the guy asked if I was intereseted in buying the machine?

I said no way have we got that cash! can I still have the free CD though- he laughed and said it was in the post.

Will let you know when it arrives and post it off.

Righto! got the details and the DVD (well actualy it's a CD) arrived this morning along with a lot of literature- the machinery they have is truely staggering.

The videos are exactly the same as those on youtube, but I'll post the CD off anyway- it'll need to be next week though cos I'm skint till Monday :)

Cheers!

I was scratching my head at the bit where it looked like the tool was scribing INSIDE the cylinders at a very weird angle- tilting in X, Y and Z and god knows what other axes lol... 'till I figured it out:

Apparently high compression engines, like dragsters etc have to have a releif helical slot machined on the internal face of the piston cylinder- otherwise the compression is too high and things erm.. break and fall apart (or so my mate says after watching something on the telly about US drag racing).

Dunno if this is true, it doesn't sound right cos surely they'd have to put a sleeve inside the cylinder for the piston to mate with- it couldn't just go straight to aly could it? but it's the only reason I can see for the weird movement the machine is doing when it looks like it's chamfering the cylinders... any ideas anyone?

And as to the G-Code.. I beleive even Prof Hawkins would have more that a little difficulty debugging it lol.

have bitten the bullet and E-Mailed the company to ask them what the machine is doing when it's making those weird multi axeis movements- I'll look like a noob but sod it, curiosity got the beter of me hehe.

I couldn't figure out why it wasn't just cutting with the block horizontal either - I wonder though if it's to increase the spindle-work clearance - I've seen similar fancy moves on 4-axis lathe videos to allow the tool to get right in near the chuck.
