Klox Wjman 04-26-2003, 01:22 PM Klox, Have a look at our company http://www.harperandsimmons.co.uk Mark... Klox 04-28-2003, 05:25 AM I'll take a look and let you know.... Klox Klox 04-28-2003, 02:05 PM Mark, I must say impressive!! I didn't know that waterjet cutting is so versatile. I've seen samples of it but it was metal. What does your everyday work consist of, programming operating of the edms ? Klox Wjman 04-28-2003, 04:13 PM Klox, Unfortunately in this job my colleague and myself only get to set and operate the WEDMs, although we have both programmed wirers before, our bosses like to do it (but they are thinking of letting us do it). Normally I will go into work, see what jobs the boss wants set up, sometimes we cut jobs that are too big to cut in one hit, so we will work out a way to do multiple setups on a job. we are currently running 2 machines on 370 hour jobs and if successful we will have at least another 20 of the same type of job. (these jobs are up to 500mm in height, hence the skim cutting enquiry). However I do program the waterjet machine myself, and as such have cut many different materials i.e. ceramic tiles (for mine and the bosses kitchens) various laminated materials, also glass, granite, plastics, hard and soft steel, basically anything you can think of!. Anything else you want to know, please ask!. How about enlightening me on what you do daily? i I'm interested to know, also what is everybody else doing? WEDM, WJET, EDM etc... Mark... Klox 04-29-2003, 03:15 AM Mark, I'm doing all the small edm jobs the other big companies won't even bother to do. Then i do press tools for a company that manufactures clutch plates. It is sometimes a bit difficult as they supply me only with concept drawings and a minimum budget. Well one of the tools i did for them lasted just over 2 years before the operator wrecked it deliberately. Then i have a passion for flyfishing. I have designed and built my own bluewater reel. I even sold a few. I haven't had any comebacks thus far on any of them. Then i do components for a guy that builds the most beautifull custom hunting rifles (mostly sights). The other day i did a falling block action(more or less on the Rigby theme) for him.(only the edmside). I also do components for a company that manufactures automotive components, and another company that manufactures starters and altenators. From time to time i do components for injection moulding but that is definitely not my turf. I am actually an instrumentmaker by trade, but the last few years jobbing in this field have become a bit scarce. Yes i do my own programming, my own operating of my edm, my own maintenance and cleaning and some conventional milling and turning in between. See you later.... Klox:D meanstreak 05-14-2003, 08:17 PM Howdy 27 Fanuc wires from 0B's to the new 1iBs, some have a rotary table for full burn and turn capabilities. Use Unigraphics to model and program with oh and PCfapt for difficult UV cuts Klox 05-15-2003, 02:43 AM Do you perhaps have a website to check out? Tell me more on what you can do with the rotary table. What do you think about submersible versus flushing? See you.... Klox wms 05-15-2003, 03:40 PM Meanstreak, Wow, 27 wire cutters! You guys must buy wire by the trainload . I'll bet your wire supplier send you nice christmas gifts. Your place must be like the Fort Knox of wire edm. What kind of work do you guys do? Mostly Tier 1 or the like? you have peaked our interest, so tells use more. Please.:D G00X0.0Y0.0 09-02-2007, 04:49 PM Hey all . Can i ask u what software do u use for ur EDMs? i don't know how to write my own code yet so i need some dxf to iso converter or something :P any sugestions? with respect Paul sodickappsguy 09-04-2007, 10:41 PM company work www.sodick.com (http://www.sodick.com) the main cad cam that i use is esprit or heart NC (sodicks own home brew cadcam) I also use feature cam some along with master cam and bobcad. As to what cad cam to use for what you are wanting to do G00 i have to ask what type of work are you planning to do. Is it going to be simple flat patterns or are you going to do solid modeling and 4 axis cut. G00X0.0Y0.0 09-05-2007, 03:16 PM @sodickappsguy, well flat patterns for now, dies, punches, but ... the base slab of a die needs to be cut at an agle 2 release the pieces ... so i'll need 4 axis for that.but i can recive any kind of project on the future... i found a bobwire demo version but i foud it rather complicated at a first glimpse; i'm still a novice in G-code... 1 week more exactly sodickappsguy 09-05-2007, 08:28 PM once someone shows you the basics about bobcad it isnt so bad. Sounds like all you need to start out may be bobcad. Esprit and mastercam cost a pretty penny compared to bobcad and bobcad will do all that you are wanting to do so far. Taper cutting is still part of the basic flat pattern packages out there. Four axis packages is for when the upper and lower head move at the same time and are independant of each other. taper cutting is more of a single axis moving to tilt to the angle. Also if you are drawing things in autocad there are cam addons like Mechanics(i think that is what it is called) that will do most to all of your edm needs. G00X0.0Y0.0 09-07-2007, 01:21 PM thanks for advice sodickappsguy :D... for now i just recived some simple patterns and punches ...5-20 line codes ... n im writing them by hand ... next month i guess i'll have 2 do a more complicated device that is suposed 2 bend and twist a 0.012 inch wire into a certain shape... so i have some time 2 figure out how bobcad works and to learn some more g-code :P G00X0.0Y0.0 09-14-2007, 02:54 AM me again ... i need a deionizer tank for my robofil 200 edm .. and i decided to fabricate one miself, can anyone help by giving me some info about volume and preasure rezistance needed? I could't find any info on the web ... Thanks in advance Paul |
