I am having a difficult time choosing a motor. I would like to build a table about 2' x 2' with a cutting envelope of 1.5' x 1.5'. I want to be able to cut up to 1" thick wood. Don't see doing any metal on this one. What is a good size motor. I thought of a NEMA 23 at about 26 oz's. Is this too small, too big?

Too small. Try for at least 100 oz. At that, you will need to cut 1" in a few passes.
