I'm investigating building a large scale scanner, 2-100'

I've recently picked up a laser tape measure, nice piece of kit, 1/4" accuracy at 100'

I'm thinking of a stepper driven gimbal with the guts of the measure on it hooked up to a simple micro processor.

Does anybody have a source for a cheap gimbal (http://www.newmarksystems.com/gimbal-gm12e.html)?

I'm probably going with these platforms (http://www.servocity.com/html/pan___tilt_systems.html)

The reason is price is right and interface options. A cheap micro controller will be enough.

Does anybody have a better transport option?

Now I just have to work out the laser part :confused:
