we have a Hurco BMC-40 VMC. Floppy drive stopped working sometime before I started here. Hurco believes the problem is on the motherboard.
Management doesn't want to spend the money to replace a motherboard when the machine still works. I'm afraid the hard drive will die an I will lose a lot of con. programs. First, I can download/upload nc type programs, no problem so the cable and port must be working. I can send data from the control to my pc but if I try to send this back to control I get an error message. I don't have software to read these programs. I have tried several dnc programs to no avail. Hurco support recommended windows hyperterminal which didn't work either. Anybody have any ideas. thanks

Something I've found with the conversational programs that I use (Siemens 840D) is that when you save your (conversational) programs to a floppy, it will save each part of the program as a seperate file (5 seperate files for me).

Now that is transfering with a floppy, so maybe what is happening with your machine is, when you transfer with a cable, it might be writing a bunch of seperate files as one long file, then when you transfer back to the machine, it can't run the program because it can't find all the files.

If you open one of your conversational programs with Notepad on your PC, do a quick search for " M30 ", see how many hits you get.

in conversational mode, you need to set up your serial port for 8,1,none. any serial transfer utility will work. hurco has a utility call conupdn.exe. this runs in dos and has been bullitproof for years. DOS !! windows nt, 98, 95, not xp!! if you need a copy, feel free to contact me. sjmeyer@gwi.net. what year, model, control?? max I, max II, max 3 ?? this info will determine a lot about what you can do to get the floppy drive up and running again. the year of the machine can be determined by the serial number. first and last digit tells the year. example---kzl9002053a 1993, b42s90024068bd 1998. look at the version of the executive software on the INPUT screen. if it is a number like 7.24 or 8.51, control is maxII. if it 1.51, 1.52, 1.64, control is one of three types of max3. if it is 2.12, 2.17, 2.21, control is maxIII. all this comes together to identify your machine and what be done to repair your floppy. ron

I was in a similar situation not long ago. I have a couple of HURCO mills. A good friend of mine is a service tech for HURCO and he recommended that I try Ipswitch WS_FTP Professional from element 5

If your machine is networked to your computer, this software is incredibly easy to use and at $80.00 very reasonbly priced.

It is much faster than using the floppies and you don't have to break up NC programs onto multiple disks.

I use for sending *.dxf files and NC programs to the mills as well as transferring programs between the mills.
