I have made a hot wire foamcutter using double drawer slides for each axis (4) and need some information for the motors. I am medically retired and making projects keeps me active and my mind off the pain. I have made other projects and lean towards making my own including the electronics. I asked a question on a BOB and recieved no answer so it is either going to be the mm2001 or Hobbycnc route. What I need if possible is a supplier for stepper motors, preferably in Calgary, Alberta. As there are a lot of Canuck's on this site I thought maybe somebody new of a business. I have searched for a while and came up empty.
Thanks in advance,
John
ps: I did not mean the hockey players.

I have had speedy delivery of steppers from SOC Robotics in Vancouver (www.soc-machines.com (http://www.soc-machines.com)) and Toronto Surplus and Scientific (www.torontosurplus.com) (http://www.torontosurplus.com%29). None of them have been run yet but I do have one mounted on my Z-axis!

Thanks for the info but the torontosurplus.com would not work for me. I would prefer closer but if I have to get in touch with Vancouver that will be okay. Finding electronic items is a pain at home.
I went to pminmo on there forum and asked a question on the 5 axis BOB as I could not understand where the x's went. Never got an answer so am going this way.
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
You can get steppers and the appropriate driver board from SOC Electronics. He's also got some things listed on eBay:

The motors he's selling are definitely too large for what you will need however, so you'll be paying extra for something you don't need. I have one of his driver boards. I've tested it, and everything works OK, but I haven't had the chance to run my machine with it yet...I haven't had the chance to build my machine yet, since I'm at McMaster U. and don't have a lot of extra time.
Hope that helps,
- Shawn
