HuFlungDung 03-24-2004, 09:30 AM That is so cute :)
chuckknigh 03-27-2004, 11:22 PM Is that 8020 extrusion? If so, then this looks very easy to build.

glenfraser 03-28-2004, 03:47 PM Whats the bar thickness on that.??
Looks about 16mm on all axis
Not a bad machine...

Maaan , I get fooled by this all the time.
Nothing is easy to build, hehe. It is all the same, I start working on something and there comes one problem and while I think of a solution I need to have the tools to help me with going for the solution, and then I cannot find the right tools or they are out of my reach/pocket/time line.
I dont wish things to be easy, I hope to have enough strenght to go all the way through.
Konstantin.
barkster 03-28-2004, 05:09 PM I don't know any information on it, I just got some pics of it from the guy who builds it. He can be contacted at

I do not speak a single word of German, but i think this (from the ebay page) is very understandable:
"Die Linearführungen bestehen aus ( Z+Y Achse ) 16 mm Stahlwellen"
hope it helps

You'll get no argument from me. :-) I always seem to underestimate the difficulty of building anything, primarily because I tend to change the details.
Regardless, assuming that this is 8020 extrusion, this is a super simple construct. The linear bearings for the X and Z axes are a stock item from 8020, too.
The Y seems to use bushings...also a cheap and adequate solution. Motor mounts look modular, too, which means this machine can be tricked out, if you want.

Well, purposely making something hard is ultimately self-defeating.
This router is actually a pretty nice construct...remember that complicated is easy, but simple takes genius. Whoever designed this one, was good!

glenfraser 03-29-2004, 10:58 AM Right were does it come from?
Who are they and what do they sell?
And do they have an outlet in the UK who make/distribute it?
In an ideal world i am looking at this type of bed

Great build the xenon machine if youve never seen it please have a look.

barkster 03-29-2004, 11:13 AM That Xenon machine is pretty cool too
chuckknigh 03-29-2004, 10:07 PM http://www.8020.net
It's kind of like an erector set (meccano) for grown-ups.
Look at the bed, and think of it as a bunch of those extrusions, run parallel to one another. That's what I think they did...

radio-op 03-29-2004, 11:05 PM The bed looks like 3 peices of 1040 or 1560, can't tell the exact size. Cool idea.

glenfraser 03-30-2004, 02:05 AM Thanks Chuck and Bill for the reply. Bill were does that extrusion come from...
Glen
radio-op 03-30-2004, 08:46 AM I'm assuming from 8020. I haven't searched their catalog but they do make a wide range of sizes. The T slot/ Xbeam stuff is great to build with. I'm using alot of 1010 (1" x 1") and 1020 (1" x 2") for the router I'm working on. I went through McMaster-Carr but I think you can order direct from 8020.

Ferenczyg 03-30-2004, 09:51 AM Bosh-rexroth has technical extrusions too, and are available in Europe. But they do not like to sell to hobbyists I think, at least all my emails are unanswered..

glenfraser 03-30-2004, 11:36 AM thanks for your replys. Its a pain this. One finding the right stuff and two at a price which is fair. And in the U.K bang my head against a brick wall comes to mind.
Example
USA bearings for 4 16mm £10 need 8 £20
12mmbearings £8.50
After the shipping cost £50 ish
UK same bits £18 pound each and i am being good with my cost total £210
Leadscrew in the us £69 plus shipping
Even if the shipping was £33 still a lot cheaper and also stepper motors.
In the u.k £216
also stepper motors a lot cheaper in the us
The only thing i seem to have got o.k in the u.k is the dremel tool holder..

Mike F 03-30-2004, 04:02 PM Glen,
If you're looking for extruded aluminium in the UK, try the Item range from mbsystem in Derby, www.item-international.com or, Alumas in Chorley, Lancashire, www.nisltd.com/alumas
The Item system is a little expensive, German but excellent quality with every imaginable fitting available. The Alumas is similar, a little cheaper and not such an extensive range.
All the best,
Mike
glenfraser 03-31-2004, 01:36 PM THANKS FOR THE INFO MIKE ILL TAKE A LOOK
Konrad 06-13-2004, 10:56 PM Here, another neat one, look at that motor, perhaps quiet??
