I started using a new cnc mill 6 months ago.( the first that the company I work for has purchased ). It came with an Align power drawbar. The problem I am having is the toolholder does not engage the dogs before the drawbar pulls it up into the taper. The toolholder is 5/16" to 3/8" away which causes the toolholder to jam on the dogs if it is not lined up correctly( which during a day of tool changes happens frequently). This causes the first thread or two on the drawbar to stretch after a couple of months which requires disassembly and chasing of the threads. We tried shortening the drawbar but this also causes the length of engaging threads to shorten. It resulted in a smashed cutter when the toolholder loosened from chatter. We were told by the company who sold us the machine that all drawbars work this way but I find it hard to believe this with all the technology available these days. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Lou

The cnc is a bed type ( Maximart ) with Fagor automation 8040 mc. There is no tool changer, it is like a conventional mill with a power drawbar. Most of the tooling I have is GS. I am in Sudbury. Not sure what you mean by pm ( I am new to this forum).Lou

hi lou,
PM = private messeage...just thought incase you did not want to advertise where you are in a public forum.. no big deal...I am in the GTA, and thought if you were close by I might be able to assist you?
have you made any progress? Sounds like maybe a diff. type of tool holder is needed?
