From what i understand i dont think its possible. After much searching (and wasting lots of time) I gave up and what i did is copied the image onto my cad program (autocad 07), and traced over the lines/curves with autocad, then deleted the picture.

My reasoning as to why you cant convert is this.

JPG to my knowledge uses dots...computer reads dot here dot there, cad files use vectors, lines and curves and the such.

Im probably wrong...but oh well XD

I got somt'in for you,
I've used it to convert many company logo since they never have a CAD in hands....

1 pixel = 1 cad unit
tips; if you're converting a plan, keep a reference dimension for your future scale

it's very useful to get a sketch on witch you can snap in your CAD

with a home scanner, 2 rulers (for x and y references) and this, you can easily copy a 2D part within 1/32'' tolerance

Yes, either Wintopo or another free one, Inkscape has a raster to vector converter. http://www.inkscape.org/

Go grab a copy of Corel draw. As part of the suite it includes corel trace, which is a program that automatically traces the outline, centerline, or whatever you ask of a .jpg and spits out a .CMX file. Open the .CMX file in Corel draw and export it as a .dxf.

Simple. and it works great!
