I'm getting to the stage of planning my Z axis conversion (J head look alike)
and could do with some links to pictures of conversions so I can pinch the the best ideas any help appreciated
I used the machined faces that run up the front of the head for alignment and mounting. I believe that these are the first things to be machined on the head casting and are used for alignment of all other operations there after. Fot this reason I thought it seemed sensible to utilise them as they would mean the quill bracket would be spot on to the quill alignment.
I have seen a few designs that mount using the 4 bolts that, when slackened allow the head to rotate left/right but decided agains this route as when tramming the head the quill bracket would have to be slackened.
You can see some pics of mine here http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/hoodsmachiningpages/BridgportConversion.htm

It worked great never had a problem at all, only thing wrong for some people would be it involves drilling and tapping two small (6mm in my case) holes in the head, but that kind of thing doesnt worry me. Might have some 3D models of it but not sure as I had a hard drive crash and a lot of the models got corrupted. If I can find them I will post a pic as they will show the detail at the back where it fits to the head.
