Hi, i have a question about the angle aluminum used in the JGRO plans, (and the joe2006). I am planning on building one of those two soon and was looking at the plans. They both use 1.25x1.25 angle aluminum. Around here you cannot find that size. I can find 1x1 or 1.5x1.5. So my thought was, instead of re-engineering it to use a different size, i would just use 1.25x1.25 galvanized steel angle. I was holding a piece today and it didn't seem like it would weigh that much more than aluminum, of course i dont have a piece of the aluminum to compare.
Has anyone ever substituted this? I have the tools neccesary to work with the steel so that isn't a problem.
And before anyone suggests it, yes i looked into ordering it from one of the many online metal suppliers and ebay, but the shipping to Canada just is not worth it, ie. $30 shipping on a $12 piece of metal.
Thanks, Ryan

Check to see if you have a Metal Supermarket near you. http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/

If not, perhaps a Canadian location will ship to you.

I actually got a piece of 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and slowly, carefully ripped it on a table saw raising it slightly per pass, i had to make it work, after all i got it free. :D
