View Full Version : Rather nice finish on Aluminium :) ImanCarrot 02-06-2007, 03:28 AM Might take a bit of figuring out these piccies cos of the reflections... but that's the finish I get on aluminium hehe :) Aksess 02-06-2007, 05:37 AM lets see a picture of it cutting producing those results. the contrast would be neat. ImanCarrot 02-06-2007, 07:26 AM Will do when I finish these components I'm working on.. this is just the jig to hold the components. When it machines aluminium the swarf comes off in a big long string like christmas tinsel- very pretty :) Geof 02-06-2007, 09:36 AM Where are you located? Somewhere up in the Scottish Highlands away from big heavy bouncy trucks or just on top of a really big block of concrete. ImanCarrot 02-06-2007, 09:54 AM rofl Geof! you know your vibration :) The machine sits on a granite- polymer 5 tonne plinth, this in turn sits on top of four active pneumatic pads, this lot then sits on the floor which has been dug down 3 feet and filled with dense concrete to a perimiter of 2 yards around the machine. Hehe I still get vibration if they start up the forklift in the next door factory, 50 yards away :) JerryFlyGuy 02-06-2007, 09:59 AM Impressive! I take it this wasn't your first barn dance eh? :) Very nice.. VERY.. Jerry Geof 02-06-2007, 10:07 AM .....Hehe I still get vibration if they start up the forklift in the next door factory, 50 yards away :) This is the part that gets me. It seems so unbelievable. I had an interesting experience with vibration a few orders of magnitude larger once. We are located on sedimentary stuff in a river delta. Next door was a container yard and once they dropped a full 40 tonner off the top of a seven high stack. My VF0 actually bounced off the floor. ImanCarrot 02-06-2007, 10:37 AM Ahhh, but I know nothing about conventional CNC machining.. I only know Diamond Turning CNC... until yesterday that is. I found a big turret mill in the machine shop with a Proto Trak A.G.E. 2 controller, so I read the manual and cut my first ever conventional CNC part *puffs chest out* lol might not look brilliant, but I only have 1/2 day's practice. And had to get the stuff from ACAD to Dolphin, then post processed to the machine.. it worked! It's mine! all mine you hear! muahaha!!! tomorrow the world :) Here's what I made with the Diamond Turning Lathe and the Conventional one (post #21, page 2) : http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26424&page=2 |
