hi there. i have just finished building uhu servo controlers, and i have downloaded a an unregesterd verson of mach 3.

when i start the program up on my laptop, it seems ok, however whithin a few secons i start to notice a noise, growing lowder and lowder, untill it is quite annoying. it dose this without any hardware attached, nor running any g-code.

the noise it makes is the sound you would get if you were holding down the wrong key in any program. this only starts when mach 3 starts. once i shut down the program, the noise continues??? i dont understand? could this have anything to do with the lpt port driver that mach loads on startup?

any help is most apreciated, and please excuse my spelling! thanks for your time.

Is it a speaker noise?
Quite possibly you have a program running in the background that conflicts with Mach. Quicktime is one of those programs that can cause problems.

I just got my first cnc router and I also get a loud noise, but it is more of a humming sound. I thought it was coming from the servos. Sometimes I can get it to stop by jogging a short distance. I can also change it's pitch by pressing on the pulleys, belts, or motors. Is it normal for this loud humming to be going on all the time? It stops when I turn off the control box, but not when I close Mach 3.

sounds like your drivers aren't tuned right and you have resonance there, not in mach.

MIKEC8100, can you verify that it is coming from the main speaker? could it be coming from the pc's onboard buzzer speaker? very odd in any case. when you say no hardware is connected, does that mean nothing at all, is there some form of control board or breakout for cnc? Is there a printer or scanner connected to the system? Good hunting.

Sorry, we seem to be talking about two different problems in one thread, but I'll just take a quick moment to close the door on mine. As I said, my machine is new. I had the control box plugged into an extension cord temporarily. This morning I finished hard wiring it into a separate circuit, and the noise disappeared completely.

:confused: I have been posting this problem in more than one forum, finally found some1 having the same problem.

As soon as I turn MACH 3 on the stepper produces high pitch noise, and no the noise does not come from the speaker, it comes from the motor itself. The motor also pulsates (produces pulses) while moving in its place.

One of my stepper drivers ceased to work, eventhough lamp is on. I stopped my trials for now so that I will not bust my drivers. I hope i do find some answers here.

I am using a 24V dc, 2A(max 3A) power supply.:confused:
