Hello all,
Has anyone ever rigid tapped 0-80 threads?
I need to tap several thousand holes .188 dp thru 6061-t6 aluminum.
Thanks for the input.

I have taped thousands of 0-80 in alum. Use a cold form tap (roll tap).
I use a 1.35mm carbide tap drill. If you are having breakage problems ckeck for lead error or backlash in Z. Water based coolant works fine.

We tap millions of #0-80 holes. Use roll/form taps, non coated for aluminum. We use a #54 drill which will allow for 55% threads. I have found that much smaller will break taps. We also use 1200 RPM at 15.00 ipm on a 2005 FADAL 4020 with Siemens control. This also works on our HAAS machines.
