View Full Version : Config Mastercam X
Capt Crunch 01-15-2007, 02:10 PM Hello All
we are running Master X and I am trying to config it so that when it starts up, my live tooling, with a C axis lathe is the default machine. I went thru the process but when I start up X I get a warning that the machine and it's axis will not support the job I am doing, even before starting the job. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong or not doing. Thanks in advance
Gerry

This is the place to go for all things MC
Capt Crunch 01-16-2007, 10:59 AM Hi again
i had save that page earlier and had little success following these directions :Setting-Configuration-Files-File Usage-lathe Definition- (Browse to the MD)
am i doing something really wrong. thanks in advance
cadcam 01-16-2007, 11:20 AM which version of Mastercam X are you using. (examples, X,MR1,MR2 or X2)
Capt Crunch 01-16-2007, 11:33 AM Hi again
it is MR2. this will make a difference? i'm new to this, baptism by fire
cadcam 01-16-2007, 04:41 PM Did you set this up in the System config like shown here?
Capt Crunch 01-16-2007, 06:16 PM CadCam man
when i select the .lmd c-axis slant bed, this comes up:
Machine group Lathe 1
Machine Definition C:\MCAMX\CNC_MACHINES\LATHE C-AXIS SLANT BED.LMD.
selected machine does not have a valid axis combination.
yet when i use the setting in the jpeg you sent to me, it works.
given that it is a 2 axis with a C or 2 1/2 axis as they are sometimes referred to, will this need to be set to lathe multi axis mill turn advance 2-4.lmd? what does the extension .lmd refer to?
The lathe is a GLS 150M -TC Yama Seiki with a Fanuc 0i control.
thank you for your help
Gerry
cadcam 01-16-2007, 06:39 PM Gerry the LMD stands for ( Lathe , Machine , Defanetion).
Were did your post come from?
The LMD I picked support C & Y axis using a basics on the Fanuc control.
(selected machine does not have a valid axis combination.) this say the Axis def is in the wrong order did you build the Machine Def ?
Capt Crunch 01-16-2007, 07:17 PM it defaulted to the post that supports the lathe multi axis mill turn advance 2-4.lmd. i ran this new configuration and the lathe 2-4 came up and the post also, so when i i reposted an existing job, very different values came up for the c axis as it was "doing" the polar interpolation. lots of X and C movements, where the MPFAN.pst gave me fewer lines of g code but the desired square that i was looking for. i will try the C & Y axis using a basics on the Fanuc control and see what i get. thanks again for your efforts. it is go time here for me. snow on the ground and too many silly people behind the wheel. ttyl.

cadcam 01-17-2007, 09:52 PM So this is working better I would say by what you said this morning.
Are you finding the post info in the documatation helpful?
Talk again soon Jay
tobyaxis 01-19-2007, 08:53 PM which version of Mastercam X are you using. (examples, X,MR1,MR2 or X2)
Jay,
Can you define those versions for me as to what they mean? :rainfro:
psychomill 01-19-2007, 11:33 PM Toby.....
X = version 10
MR1 = maintenance release "1"
MR2 = maintenance release "2"
X2 = Newest version of Mastercam
With each version of MC, there may be a couple of maintenance releases for new stuff or upgrades (Not to be confused with patches which are generally for bugs). The "MR" stuff is kind of a stepping stone to the next full version release.

cadcam 01-20-2007, 09:41 AM X = version 10, well this was not meant to be Version 10 it just matches the roman numeral of X. but true name is Mastercam X the first of the series of X series.
Mastercam planes to introduce maintenance release about every 4 to 5 months as we are around the corner from X2_MR1 and they are already in the base stages of MR2 and looking into the future of X3 & X4.
In every maint release, you will see new features in some case large features like MR1 were we saw the intro to HSM paths (High Speed Machining), as the same for MR2 that brought us the Advance Multy Axis tool paths.

tobyaxis 01-20-2007, 12:46 PM Cool Jay,
Is it possible to spice a part of one application into another to increase machining capabilities?
Ex. Lathe Level 1 combined with Mill Level 3 to Program a Multi Tasking Lathe Part. Like this one.
cadcam 01-20-2007, 05:06 PM Well to do mill turn like 3axis surfacesing on a Lathe you need mill3 and Lathe one on the same sim, you can also lathe part of it and choose another Machin Def and them mill the part and post a lathe & mill program for to diffrent machines from the same file.

Thanks for the information. Mazatrol without a good Teacher is more confusing by the day. Not to mention that the limited time I get to spend with this guy is far in between. Setup is Standard, but Programming Conversational Mazatrol is way different than I expected. It may be time to sit down with the boss and discuss a departure. I hate giving up, but production will not wait for anyone.:confused: :(
