Hi,
A couple of years ago I had a Fadal that would freeze on power up. A tech suggested a "hard boot" and that fixed the problem. It was something like put the machine in e-stop and hold slide hold or manual while powering up. I mentioned this to another tech and he had never heard of it. The first tech has since moved on. Does anyone know about this mystery procedure?

Thanks,
Paul

I have one with the same problem. It did it from day one, Fadal repalced the entire card cage and all boards. Still does it from time to time. About 5 years later several different techs and many service calls one has ever mentioned 'hard boot'. Will give it a try next time.

If these things run off of a PC motherboard, the 'hardest boot' I can think of is to clear CMOS and reload defaults, then modify as required in setup. You would need a list of what the settings should be, before you take such a step.

They may well have a keyboard method of clearing CMOS, but another way is to remove the power and remove the onboard battery. Are you sure you wish to proceed? My WAG :D IF no PC motherboard, then I have no clues.

My machine froze at start up this morning and I tried the above mentioned possibilities for button combinations for 'hard boot' it did not help. Had to do the old wiggle and jiggle all the boards trick to get it to boot.

I'm not sure what is meant by the "hardboot" terminology, but if you are referring to the "Zero Memeory" give me a call at the office and I'll sent you the procedure via email or fax.
