View Full Version : BBQ Request - 4th of March (Sunday) 2007
mikie 01-03-2007, 11:31 PM Hey guys,
I seem to be a little flat and need some inspiration to keep going.
Does anyone want to have a get together and mull over problems or issues.
If nobody wishes to host the BBQ I can have it at my lace again in Wattle Glen.
I was thinking the third weekend in Feb (18th).
This should give people ample time to get their act together.
Pass this on to anyone who is interested.
The past gatherings have been well welcomed.
I can get hold of projectors, etc if needed.
Michael
Greolt 01-04-2007, 02:02 AM Sounds good. I'll be there Mike :wee:
epineh 01-04-2007, 03:05 AM I'd love to be there Mike, its just the 3000km in between thats the problem for me, I'll put a couple of crayfish on the BBQ and have a couple of beers here instead, have a coldie for me...
Russell.

I'm not ready to host unfortunately.
Andy
epineh 01-15-2007, 01:32 AM Is it definately on the 18th? I will keep an eye out for some cheap airfares, you never know...
Russell.
mikie 01-15-2007, 04:38 AM Well it looks like I have to host this again.
Unfortunatly I have the same old machine to show people.
Is no one else willing to show their machine????
/Mikie
tasrobotics 01-15-2007, 07:32 AM I would love to have cum to your BBQ but work is to bissy for me to zip across bas strait but if you all want to cum to Devonport I will host the BBQ.

epineh 01-16-2007, 01:21 AM Is no one else willing to show their machine????
/Mikie
If it fits within carry on luggage requirements I'll bring it along... :)
Russell.
mikie 01-16-2007, 09:51 PM I kind of meant host it out their place, but i would love to see a "carry on" CNC router table. I suspect you couldn't start it up on board due to the fly by wire issues with electrical power from portable devices!!

Hi,
I should be able to make it. Is the date definately the 18th Feb?
Cheers,
Peter.
FPV_GTp 01-17-2007, 01:40 AM hi
Mikie is that Wattle Glen, VIC, Australia ??
or we talking another state ?
cheers
derekj308 01-17-2007, 06:04 AM Hi Mikie
I'm in. I might even hire a 6 x 4 and bring my machine to your place. Eventually my place will be good enough to host a BBQ but it aint ready yet lol.
Cheers
Derek
ynneb 01-17-2007, 07:56 AM Yes I will be there too. Mike don't feel insecure about your place or your machine. The last time we were there it was great. Anyway you have two other partial machines there, that we would love to tell you how to finish :)
Will you have a target set up for all of us to use the potato cannon ? I will bring the chlorine and brake fluid.
How about if every one brings an item of interest or some pictures, as some have done in the past.
The projector last time was good.We need to ensure a time limit per exhibit though.
I suggest you sent a PM to all those who have previously been or expressed an interest. Its easy to miss this thread if you dont visit the zone too much.
paul3112 01-21-2007, 06:13 PM Count me in. So many things to talk about that require a beer or three to explain.
Paul
Nigel_B 01-23-2007, 05:07 AM Hi Michael
I will try to be there, missed the one at Nigel's due to work, but the middle of the month should be OK.
Won't have too much to contribute but will hopefully be starting to build that cnc drill with rotary axis and converting my Emco to use steppers, Gecko 202s and Mach 3.
So I hope I can listen to all those who have already done it, as really I don't have a clue. At this stage I am just buying the bits and hoping they find a way to get together in some fashion that works.
Nigel (the other one)
epineh 01-23-2007, 07:24 AM Just did the sums and it would cost the same for me to get there and back as the new DeskCNC controller and software that I am eagerly anticipating, I hope you guys understand.
I do come to Sydney occasionally for training, you never know, might happen to coincide with one of the BBQ's, its a shorter step from there than Cairns...
Have fun.
Russell.
Greolt 01-23-2007, 05:37 PM I must say I'm a bit dissapointed Russell :(
Was looking forward to having a beer and hearing first hand of your CNC adventures.
mikie 01-24-2007, 03:32 AM Guys,
I am awfully sorry to have to do this to you all, but I have just been told that I have to fly to France for a month, leaving MOnday.
This of course conflicts with the BBQ date, so I will not be able to host the event. Can people advise me if they are happy to move it to the end of Feb or March and I can still host it, unless someone else feels that would like to pick up the slack from me.
Once again I am sorry about this.
Please post preferred dates for the revised BBQ date. I think early March myself would be better, say 1st or 2nd week.
/Michael

I would have liked to have made it, but look at it this way, the longer it takes us all to get together, the more machines we can make then talk about :)
Guys,
I am awfully sorry to have to do this to you all, but I have just been told that I have to fly to France for a month, leaving MOnday.
Well I for one definately cannot fly to France to have a BBQ...hehe
Seriously though, sometimes I think it would be nice to live a little closer to be able to make it to one of the BBQ's, but then... the fishing up here is sooooo good :)
Russell.
Greolt 01-24-2007, 06:48 AM Please post preferred dates for the revised BBQ date. I think early March myself would be better, say 1st or 2nd week.
Early March should be OK for me. Any one else offering a venue?
But then we would need to wait for Mike to get home anyway. :)
You never know that might be enough time to finish my current build. Show and tell. :rainfro:
derekj308 01-24-2007, 08:01 AM Any chance of picking up some genuine french sticks for the BBQ?
FPV_GTp 02-01-2007, 02:37 AM Hi
I have a empty factory warehouse we can use
It all depends if you guys are willing to travel to St Albans Melbourne
I have no CNC machines to show yet , but im sure others will have there machines to show and tell
just a thought if i can take the pressure of Mike
You guys can bring your machines here if you that keen .
otherwise we can wait till Mike gets back from France ;)
cheers

Address: Drop me a PM and I will supply my address in a reply email, I just have a few reservations to posting it on the zone.
/Michael
mikie 02-08-2007, 07:16 PM Does anyone know how to ammend the header date?

Hi Michael,
Look forward to it. I can bring along a few goodies such as the ModIO, DigiSpeed, etc. This way people can see them in the flesh so to speak.
Thanks for hosting it. (Maybe I should wait on the thanks until I find out where it is. :) )
Cheers,
Peter.
FPV_GTp 02-08-2007, 08:01 PM Hi
I'm in coming to the BBq
Mike PM requesting addy sent

FPV_GTp 02-08-2007, 08:03 PM Does anyone know how to ammend the header date?
Hi Mike , just put in the very first posting in Bald/larger lettering and in colour red change of date and time
Moderators can only change the front page details
and post in the last post detail change also
cheers
Greolt 02-08-2007, 08:10 PM I'll be there Mike.
Just got permision from the boss to invite people here for a meet but your place sounds good.
Are you in Aus or still munching frogs.:)
PM sent.
mikie 02-14-2007, 04:12 AM Okay boys,
Sorry for being suck a slacker and not PM'ing you sooner.
For the boys that PM'ed me I have responded with sme details.
P.S - In the interim I have actually swapped out my X-rails and fitted the new 26mm ones that Nigel and myself made last year. Whacked in the new second hand 300oz'er and off I went. Runs like a bought one. One issue was that my box couldn't take the load like before and I had to whack in some supporting structure. The dogs breakfast now looks like a tip, but I have to say it will do what I need it too.
You boys are going to laugh your heads off when you see my machine ( for the newbies). The rest know what it's like.
Plus I have the 1600 X 1600 table frame to show and the newly aquired full sheet table that used to be Benny's.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all there in March.
I will PM paul and get him to change the header date for the BQ
/Michael
ynneb 02-14-2007, 04:37 AM Mike I have changed the header. Sorry I didnt see the request earlier.
See you there.
mikie 02-18-2007, 08:04 PM Hey guys,
Just a couple of follow up things.
Come around 11.00 to 12.00PM
also,
If you have some things to bring and share (things that you think others may be interested in) then please bring it along. The more people can bring, then the better i tink the day will be.
/M
gazza 02-19-2007, 12:15 AM Hi all,
Mikie I am interested in meeting a few of you guys as well (did you get my PM on the 22nd Jan)
If there is any interest I can bring along my old signplotter (1986 vintage) not much to look at but it is a x-y axis roll plotter/cutter with a simple Z axis up and down, and a 360 degree steerable blade. Also has a plug in board to connect it to a PC.
very interested to see some of the other projects
thanks
Gary
epineh 02-20-2007, 12:49 AM Hey Mikie, I don't know if you got my PM, I cannot make it to the BBQ, but I can send down a section of a circuit board I am currently working on, it is a stepper driver board based on the Allegro A3986 chip. It is only at the design stage at the moment, but you can see what can be done with a printer, hacksaw, a toaster oven and some acid.
If anyone is interested, let me know, and give me a mailing address and I will send it along in my place...
Cheers.
Russell.
Boros 03-03-2007, 02:33 AM Hi Guys
Its been a while since I've posted.
Been kind of busy with work.
Anyway I'm stuck in Taiwan trying to get a machine to grind a a good radius and will not be able to attend the BBQ.
Hope you all have a good time.
See ya soon anyway.
Boros
mikie 03-04-2007, 06:28 AM To all that have been following the thread, I have a few pictures from todays BBQ with some of the guys that attended.
We even had our first lady who showed up, but wasn't really interested in any garbage that we were talking about.
All in all I think it went well. Derek brough his router on the back of his brother trailer. I suspect it turned a few heads on the way over. I'm suprised it actually made it here, given he hadn't fastened the table top to the base.
Cheers
Michael
paul3112 03-04-2007, 06:46 AM And, thank you again for making us all welcome and letting us wander around your workshop. A great day had by all.
Paul
derekj308 03-05-2007, 06:17 AM Hi Guys
As mikie rightly pointed out I didn't have the table top fastened to the base. I was reminded of that fact when I checked my side mirrors and thought "I don't remember it looking like that". I stopped 4 times on the way to mikies to re-tie and didn't have to stop once on the way back thanks to some clever suggestions from Paul. Thanks Paul for making the trip home much less stressful and mikie I owe you half a fence picket.
Thanks mikie for the great venue and giving me an excuse to take my machine for a country drive. Thank god I didn't end up adding a homebrew cnc machine to the list of inanimate objects littering the western ring road.
I had a great time and I can't wait for the next one at Gregs in Geelong.
PS mikies' digital vernier is out by 1 mm
Cheers
ynneb 03-05-2007, 06:22 AM Sounds like it was a good day.
Sorry I didn't make it, I double booked, and letting down the wife is more problematic than letting down you guys.
Thanks for the pics.
crocky 03-05-2007, 05:25 PM Sounds like a beaut time was had by all, I will have to try and make the one at Greg's place seeing as it is just down the road :)
Do you have any of your wife's there with you or is this thing a blokes only thing?
Making some progress with my cnc :) a bit at a time!
Cheers,
Bob
crocky 03-05-2007, 05:34 PM Just saw the pics, good show.
1 of you took your wife that means mine won't be left in the cold :)
Greolt 03-05-2007, 05:38 PM One young lady attended Bob.
Girls are welcome of course.
Mine would say "What you want me to go to a meeting where all you talk about is #&*$ CNC!!! Not likely."
PS: The next one will be at my place so hopefully she won't find an excuse to be somewhere else. Your wife will be very welcome.
crocky 03-05-2007, 10:55 PM Greg,
Pat is not even into PC's so there is no fear of her getting involved in CNC things.
Tell your wife she will have company if she likes :)
ynneb 09-02-2007, 07:51 PM Time for another? Lets make this the biggest one yet.
Mikies house again?
mikie 09-02-2007, 08:24 PM Sounds like an idea.
I am happy to host it at my place, but you guys will have to look the other way to all the excavation work thats happening.
Hey Benny,
When you come over, can you bring that toy back how of yours.
I have a bit of work for it. The bobcat just can't get into the nooks and crannies around the shed
/Michael
Splint 09-02-2007, 08:35 PM I'm keen for a CNC BBQ.
Cheers
Splint
ynneb 09-02-2007, 09:13 PM Two weeks from now?
You set the date Mikie and we can all promote it like hell. Lets get 20 people there! Let make it kick arse. Every one must bring along one thing of interest, even if its photos. Once you have set the date we will start a new thread.
mikie 09-02-2007, 09:24 PM Okay then, 2 weeks time on a Sunday for lunch.
That makes it the 16th of September.
Benny,
Maybe you can change the date on this thread, or something like that so people don't confuse dates.
See you guys at my place in a few weeks.
I will post the address for people who don't know where I live soon.
Don't leave it to the last minute, as I had people contacting me on the morning of the last BBQ for my address.
ynneb 09-02-2007, 09:46 PM I have retitled this thread, but also locked it to avoid confusion.
All further talk can be made here http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42945
