Does anyone have any idea how much this lathe would cost. Im thinking its probably about €8000 - €10,000 and I dont want to e-mail them because I dont think I'll be buying one, unless it comes in under €3000, which is why Im asking! :)

Thanks ger. Thats good to know. I haven't bought my 1st lathe yet so I figured someone whos seen a few different types and models come and go would have a better idea of the price. :cheers:

I'm just guessing as well. But I know you can spend $5,000 on a good standard lathe.

Been a while since I looked at buying one but I thinkthat the Halpo was $25,000 plus. I couldn't find any commercial machine anywhere near what I could afford except the Legacy ornimental mill. After 3 years with the Legacy I needed something with more features so I started building my own CNC mill. Turns out that the hardest part of the process is getting time to work on it. Expect to have A axis operational within 2 weeks. If you have the need for a Halpo but can't afford it you should consider building a CNC mill. Look at my site www.turningaround.org for details. Im thinking less than half of that $5000 Gerry for my lathe. I dont see it being a mainstay of my business, only for intermittant pieces. Although there is one thing I'd really like to be able to do....see below....

Thats one beast of a machine turning the 9 1/2 ft column. Hope it didn't come loose! :eek:

.....I'd really like to be able to turn spiral ropes on columns but from my understanding a cnc lathe is a necessity for this. Is this correct?

A cnc lathe is outside my budget at the moment, so I guess I'll just do without, unless someone can tell me how to turn them economically and manually.

You can get a Legacy but the 1800 will cost 5K This is my cost on my DIY mill/lathe/router where mine will do 24" by 12' columns and more and the Legacy will do 11" by 8' columns. I built my machine because of the limintations of the Legacy.

I dont see myself needing a lathe larger than 48" at the moment. Although I do have ideas that I could put into fruition with a larger one at a later date.
