I have a friend that is getting married soon and i was curious if anybody had any suggestions for something that i could machine for them?

Some ideas that ive been thinking about are:
* Fancy plaque with their initials (cant remember what its called, but its where you use a fancy font and the initials are intertwined (sp?))
* Simply put their names on a plaque with the date, etc.

Any other ideas or places where i can find some artwork that would work for a wedding?

Something someone made My Wife and I was a folding Picture Frame with a copy of our wedding invitation engraved on one side and a place for a wedding picture on the other. It was done with Walnut. Pretty Cool. I have been meaning to try something like that but have yet to get there.

I once made a clock face for a couple (put their names and some sappy hearts and stuff on it) - bought the innards (motor, hands, etc) at a crafts store...

How about an engraved invitation with a image of the bride and groom above it in a piece of wood? my son's getting married this summer and I have to think of something I want to make also.

Engrave a inverted image of the wedding phot into 1/4" white acrylic then make a wood lframe light box to display it. They are very stunning.

Your pictures convinced me of that! Do you have a specific place you get your material? I;m looking around for some here locally to try it.

depending on numbers... maybe you only make for the bride and groom but here's another idea.

at the weddings I've been to, you're always juggling a champagne/wine glass in one hand, and appertizers in the other while trying to mingle about and chat. The wine is accessible, but short of putting you glass down, or eating out of your palm [none too classy] the food is tempting but inaccessible.

I saw these "wine and cheese trays" and thought they were a neat idea. hard to describe but here goes. The platter is the size of what your restaurant bill comes on (say 4x9"x1/4") through which there is a hole (2" dia) set in from one edge. This whole lets you put your glass into it by way of a little channel that is routed from the perimeter of the tray into the hole. Through this channel you can pass the wineglass stem, and then have it settle in the larger 2" cutout.

you could get fancy and put and engraving onto this too.

just a thought.

When I got married I made up some artwork and sent it off to a laser engraver. The art was laser engraved on wooden disks that were handed out to everyone as momentos. They were custom made for the event, but inexpensive. They were a big hit.

Just look in the phone book for plastic.. If they are a wholesaler say you are a buisness. If they wont sell you a small sheet try US Plastics on line. Do a google search. They sell alot of cut sizes. Its cheaper sometimes than buying a whole sheet if you don't need it. I can get a 4x8x 1/4 sheet of white acrylic local for $90.

Glass shops usually sell acrylic (plexiglass)

I found some used light blue plexi at work today that was being pitched. I'm going to give that a try and see how it comes out!
