ZipSnipe 10-02-2006, 06:41 AM Nice work!!, did you fab the screw? And how? Or where did ya get it?
pit202 10-02-2006, 10:47 AM thanks , here : http://www.allegro.pl/item130273509_slimak_transportowy_podajnik_slimakowy_.html
my has 140cm length 98mm diameter and cost about 55€
Nice work!!, did you fab the screw? And how? Or where did ya get it?
Zipsnipe; if you Google for 'helicoid flighting' you might be able to find a source closer than Poland.:D This is just the spiral that has to be welded onto a shaft.
CNCgr 10-02-2006, 03:07 PM Nice! I can't see the coolant drain, what did you use to keep the chips out?
Nikolas
pit202 10-03-2006, 04:43 AM I`ve made multiple holes about 2.5mm diameter on the other side as the motor.
Geof , Poland isn`t so far ;-)
mpstech 10-17-2006, 04:04 PM Are those haas covers on the Y-axis slides or where did you get them ?
How much ?
rhino 10-18-2006, 02:59 AM nice work!!!
pit202 10-21-2006, 10:27 AM > Are those haas covers on the Y-axis slides or where did you get them ?
yes, they are , and Z too , this was about 2k€ and this was too expensive for this few pieces of sheet metal for me , if I new how it look before , I`ll be never buy them.
> nice work!!!
thanks , and this works fine :)
DSL PWR 12-13-2006, 11:38 PM If any of you live in a farming area, you could get some grain auger flighting on the cheap.
pit202 could you upload the video again, as I'd love to see it in action.
pit202 12-14-2006, 01:30 AM > pit202 could you upload the video again, as I'd love to see it in action.
yes, if I only get back from work.

can You speak polish ?
DSL PWR 12-14-2006, 03:00 PM I can't speak polish.
DSL PWR 12-16-2006, 12:16 AM Video please :)

sory for this delay, I had have severial problems with my internet connection.
> I can't speak polish.
I can`t english ;-) so we are equal.
DSL PWR 12-18-2006, 12:49 PM Looks great, thanks
tkoden 12-04-2007, 06:00 PM Sorry to bring this thread back up but I am looking at doing this same thing on a new VF1. How did you support the output end of the auger? What was the make and model of the right angle gearbox you used? Did you use any thrust bearings anywhere to take up the load from the auger? Have you had any problems over the last year of usage? And, lastly, how did you integrate the wiring into the controller? Do you just use a toggle switch to turn it on/off when you need to?
Thanks for the help,
Kirk
pit202 12-05-2007, 12:36 AM VF doesn`t have chip auger ?
I used a "kacperek" gearbox , a polish product , and the "shift??" is 1/42 , motor is 3 phase 250W and 1350 RPM, I don`t used any thrust bearings, a Kacperek tech. told me I don`t need them. I didn`t have had any problems with working, the only and one problem is allways the same : pushing chips to the tank :( I do not integrate it with haas controller, my TM doesn`t have fully soldered IO board , so I don`t have elements for chip auger and tool changer , so I used a 3 pos. switch ( fwd stop rev )
hope it helps.
HAASboi 12-09-2007, 04:40 AM sweet!! chip auger

The machine was purchased for a high school and we didn't have the money for the chip auger. Since our time is worth nothing we were looking at building one as an exercise for the students and also to increase the productivity of the machine.
How did you secure the output end of the auger? Did you just put it inside a tube and let that contain it or did you somehow put bearings on it?
Thanks for the input.

The factory system in my VF-2 is just that: a motor, driving an auger that rides in the discharge chute on the other side of the machine. There are no support bearings or anything like that on the discharge side.
tkoden 12-09-2007, 10:07 PM You wouldn't know the RPM of the factory auger would you?
Donkey Hotey 12-09-2007, 10:48 PM I don't know the RPM but it's very slow. Think barbeque rotisserie and you're there.
The important thing is torque--lots of it. When the chips get to the other end, the idea is to push them up the chute, compact them a bit and allow the coolant time to drain back. That takes a lot of torque.
pit202 12-10-2007, 12:29 AM factory chip auger at my sl-20 it makes 1 rotation per 2.5 seconds , on my home made chip auger it is 2.5times faster ( all messured without a stopwatch ) which of these is better ? I don`t know yet , one works and the other too.
you can`t secure the end of auger with bearings , there is no place , no need , there must be a plenty of place for chips.
there is only one think that I could do better, my cone is to short and the lift is too small. If you wish , I can take dimension from my SL for you.
pit202 12-10-2007, 12:42 AM the torque : my motor isn`t very big , witch normal chips I never had a problem, with drilling chips too , problem is with side milling chips , this long one , they once stopped my auger :) this was because TM has many places to gather chips , and then when I wash them down that was too many - and this is only with the long side milling chips, couse they like to chock.
oh , and finally : the factory chip augers chute aren`t round like my :)
tkoden 12-10-2007, 01:06 AM How much rise does your cone have? How much more do you think it needs?
Thanks for the help guys.

I work with Kirk, and to clarify, we were thinking about possibly a HDPE sleeve, or some similarly low friction plastic that the outboard end of the auger would ride in.
pit202 12-10-2007, 02:25 AM I have taken some dimensions ( cm )
