For the benefit of those trying to eliminate backlash, I have attempted to gather up as many ideas and thoughts as I could, based on my travels through the Internet. I have combined them into a semi-coherent pair of articles on the subject.

Eliminating Backlash Part 1: The Basics

http://www.thewarfields.com/MT/CCBacklash1.htm

This is a basic treatise on ballscrews and using angular contact bearings to mount them.

Eliminating Backlash Part 2: Refinements

http://www.thewarfields.com/MT/CCBacklash2.htm

This assumes you've got your ballscrews installed and you are still not happy, which is the case here.

There are some things I've run across that have not been mentioned often, and I hope that putting it all together in one place will be helpful as well.

Best,

BW

Thanks guys, you are too kind.

I find the effort of laying out the site and struggling to present the ideas clearly is the only way to unjumble them in my own mind, so it's worth the effort to help me become more knowledgeable. Hopefully it also has some benefit and "give back" to the community that has helped me so much with this learning curve.

Best,

BW

Very VERY, nice job Bob. Will be posting this thread as a link in the future.

Surely, folks would rather read you fine effort as opposed to hearing me whine on and on about bearing preload and contact angles, espcially when it comes to ball screw supports....

Again, thanks for the effort and give back to the community!!!!!!
