Drilled & tapped a 3/8-16 hole and inserted a bolt from the bottom. My stand is constructed so that I have access from the bottom and can turn the bolts as needed. I would have rather used fine thread but without using an insert it'd never happen in this material.

So...now we'll see if it's easier to square up!

ps. thems 25% MORE WD40 CANS (damn caps lock got me again) are a better deal than the small buggers 'eh?. that juice is great for water proofin yer clothing and'll stop any chafing... if yer gurl don't mind the smell and the fact yer a little more slippery than usual.

Ok, that's what it looks like underneath your column and just below and to the right of the large threaded hole in the first pic is where I installed a bolt to run up from the bottom to, yes, aid in squaring the column. There is another on the other side of the base and I only put them on the front of the base because my column tilted forward from the giddy-up.

And I have found WD-40 to be as indispensible as oxygen.

Verily, I would bathe in it if I thought it would cure arthritis or plump up wood fibers. ;)

all clear now mate. i was going to do a similar thing to my own mill, but from the top like the photo below.... on the other hand yours looks neat too... do you find getting under there to be ok, or would threading the column maybe be a cooler idea.

I reckon it's 6 of one, half dozen the other.

I don't plan to crawl under there too many more times but I'll agree having them on the column base certainly makes it a lot easier to see your DI when you adjust.

Either way I've had grim visions of me socking down the bolts only to hear the unmistakeable "TINK" of cracked cast iron. I've seen bigger pieces crack with less strain.

Paranoid, I know.:rolleyes:

I think CNC would put a lot more strain on the column so maybe the modern guys will be adjusting more than I will.
