I just did a bunch of Ubunta updates and now EMC doesn't work, the launch screen comes up and allows me to select a machine type and the the main screen comes up and goes away and nothing else happens. HELP I don't know what to do.

Jack,
If you updated the kernel with a standard kernel rather than an RTAI enabled kernel, you killed the real time hooks. If so, you need to either modify your new kernel for RTAI or go back to an earlier "Magma" kernel.

I would think the update would leave the real-time kernel in /boot -- in fact, doesn't the boot loader allow you to boot the real-time kernel as an option?

Unterhaus,
I think you are right. Jack should be able to just boot the "magma" kernel unless somehow the update removed it from the boot list.

what do you mean by updates (did you upgrade to dapper)? when was the last time you had updated your ubuntu? If it was a long time there was some changes in the way you entered the period in the ini.
Open up terminal and run emc from the command line and see what comes up.
(just type in 'emc' the terminal)
