Anyone ever had way covers repaired?
I just picked up a new 40x20 CNC yesterday and the way covers were not installed... I saw that one of the segments in the Y cover is really beat up. The gaskets are missing on all sections of the Y cover and the X cover is missing all its gaskets too. I called one place who said $800-1200 to replace one segment of the Y cover and to regasket all 5 segments of the Y cover. That seemed REAL expensive to me - almost a rip off! Its just a bent piece of metal with a couple strips tack welded on.
I'm thinking the machine tool salesman should cough up the $$ to pay for this - I had a guy inspect the machine and he said the mill was good, but the covers were missing. I asked about the covers and they said "oh, yea, they will come with the machine, no worries". They obviously were off the machine for a while and it ain't just as simple and bolting them back on.
