Hey all, I bought DeskCNC and controller back in 2004 but due to unforseen circumstances, I haven't been able to actually use any of it until now.
Anyway, I have QCad to ouput GCode for PCBs (works great) and I can probably use that for 2.5D layouts as well (motor mount is a real WIDE copper trace with 1/2" thick copper lol)
I'm now looking for a 3D CAD package for designing parts and I stumbled across designcad. Its CHEAP and playing with the demo makes it seem quite capable (only 30 minutes playing with pre-builts). I saw that it wouldn't output a 3D format that is compatible with DeskCNC so I went googling and found Accutrans ($20!). I exported an engine model as an IGES file then Accutrans'd it to an STL for import into DeskCNC - which seemed to work great - at least DeskCNC didn't complain about anything.
I don't have a machine hooked up yet to test with so I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this combo with DeskCNC and what their experiences were like?
P.S. I also discovered that IMServ sells Accutrans too! When I get home I'll have to purchase it - regardless of the CAD package I use, I don't doubt Accutrans will be invaluable.
