I am looking for some tool holders but the price is pretty steep to be buying a few dozen tool holders. Should I bite the bullet and invest in the dedicated NMTB 30 holders or can I get away with using an adapter with ER32 collets? I don't have a lot of tools nor do I do a bunch of tool swap outs on my parts. What kind of accuracy can I expect if I use the collets? Thanks in advance for any help.

Typically the collets run truer than the end mill holders.
I had a limited budget when I purchased my BOSS 9 so I purchased a pile of generic 1/2 inch end mill holders. Plus a few of the other common sizes. Then I purchased some small drill chucks with 1/2 inch straight shanks and some very small collet holders with 1/2 inch straight shanks. These were cut down in length as there was a lot of times where the 5 inch quill travel could not accomodate the drill chucks and other tooling. This gave me a great range of ways to hold tooling as most of my jobs were smaller in size. The only downside to the generic tooling was that it did not accept carbide end mills. I had to hone them out a few tenths.

Hi All,
George is giving some good advice, Do remember to not over feed the collets, I've had them do funny things, such as push into the collets, pull into the work for two. Keep watching ebay, if you keep after it long enough you'll get the NMTB 30 for a good price
