Is it possible to hard chrome at home? Are there kits out there? I think it would be nice to be able to coat some parts at home. I am not talking about comercial just for a sense of satisfaction.

OOPS, I re-read your post an noticed that you wanted "hard" chrome plating NOT "decorative" chrome plating.

Chrome plating is not quite as simple as dipping in a solution.
The process needed will depend on what you want to plate.

If steel you would need to copper plate first and then Nickel plate.
The process from nickel to Chrome would need to go straight thru Nickel > Rinse >and straight into the Chrome.
If you don't the nickel will quicly become passive and would need to go through an activation process.
Do some research before you trow money at it.
Most suppliers assume that you know what you are doing. If you don't they can't or won't help
Finally most solutions have a life and require additions periodically, getting small quantities of chemicals was my biggest problem. And waste disposal is a problem you should look at.
On the positive side It is possible, I have done it.

Hi all,
Went to Caswell's site and had a look around, one of the things I liked with his set up is that he has a forum just like this one ( for plating of course, other stuff there as well). Lots of questions and help from people who have purchased and are using the kits.

It's great to buy a kit but there is nothing better that asking and getting answers from people who actually use them.
