Is the Modified J thread which is a modified root radius in UNCJ, something that applies to a rolled acme thread?
I have purchased several feet of 3/8-10 ACME rolled thread from McMaster Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/), and a 3/8-10 2G plug tap from E-Taps (http://www.e-taps.com/index.htm)
The only problem is the tapped hole size must be enlarged to .365 before the rolled thread will pass through it!
This is NOT enough thread engagement for strength and efficiency! I have solved this problem in Delrin, by sharpening the end of a piece of acme threaded rod to cut the remaining material. This in not possible in brass or bronze, and I do not feel like manually single pointing a thread in the lathe for everything I do!
What is the solution?
I have included a close-up image of the tap and threaded rod!
