Hey I was just wondering if there were any good programs out there to turn a picture into a 3d cad file and from there end up with G code. I'm looking at doing some 3D engraving in wood at school but the programs arn't really for what I'd like to do.

Try MeshCAM at http://www.robgrz.com/meshcam.phtml . It will let you take a bitmap and convert it into gcode directly. You can do a search for MeshCAM in the forums here to see what others are doing with it.

Robgrz you're the creator of the program right... I'm going to do some work this weekend with photoshop and see what I can come up with and use the software to create my toolpaths and hopefully sometime next week I can get on the CNC at school and try and whip her out... I'll try and post some pics

I look forward to the pictures. Let me know what you think, and what could be done to make it better for your purpose.
Since you're a photoshop guy you might be interested in a link I just found- http://members.fortunecity.com/brooksbank/psptut3/ . It's an odd way to do a photo relief but it's kind of unique too.
