I'm really just getting started, but thought I would share some pictures of my router project:

I've been working on it slowly over the past couple of month's.

I did the design of both. I'm also doing a chopper board based on the 3977, but probably won't finish it till after the machine is done. The 5804 board I did to get a stepper running. Figured it would be much simpler in case of problems. And the steppers I have are 7.6V 1A steppers.

Cool - love the price of the gear too - you might be at the low-end of expenses too!
A good data point fot the ultimate resource challenge - use mail order bits and pieces! (How was Enco to deal with?)

My dealings with Enco have been great. My last order the shipping and handling was around $4 for $25 worth of stuff. Seems like everybody is $6 or more these days. Received two emails, one confirming the order, one the next day confirming shipping with a UPS tracking number.

how will does those Bronze bearing slide?

Not sure the bronze bearings are going to work. The bearings by themselves on the shaft move fine. My plan was to build a "pillow block" pair out of mdf and mount on one side and use roller blade bearings on the other. My thinking was I outght to be able to hold one side true, but any skewing would cause binding, thus the roller bearings on the other side. Well I'm having problems with skewing just on one side. I'm about ready to punt on the bronze bearings.

pminmo,
Great looking machine. Have you considered using two leadscrews? That would solve the binding and yawing. On a 24" wide machine you need real stiff bearings with considerable preload to get acceptable yaw, otherwise you would have to make the gantry more "square". In my machine theres still some 0.5mm yaw left when I push it hard.

John
