I plan to use mach4 and gecko to drive my Allen Bradley servo drive and motor. I just need to know if there is any lack of accuracy when you boost the speed the step pulse frequency of the gecko. My motors can turn at something like 3000RPM with 1500lines encoder, so I don't know if a gecko will be able to drive them a full speed with precision. Can anyone help me before I spend 400$ ? And if I m totaly wrong, can any one explain me ( the fact that there are 32767 differents speed, I loose something here...)?

The G100 can put out 1Mhz per axis so I don't think it will be a problem.

If you motor was a stepper motor [I know its a servo] with 200 step/rev and your drive uses 10ustep [micro step] then you have 2000step/rev. 1million / 2000=500Rev/sec. or 30,000RPM.. I think it would have it covered. :)

In your case w/ a 1500 line encoder, it puts out 6000 index's per rev [ in Quad] so that limit's it to 166.6 rev/sec input into the Gecko or..10,000rpm.. so thats your limit.. and I still think its got it covered :D


In reality.. its going to be darn tuff to reach the G100's limit's.

Ahh darn.. I gots me' wires crossed.. so.. the stepper will only do 120,000rpm.. and the servo's encoder limit is only 40,000rpm..

Jerry [I'd sure like to see a motor of either style that could turn this fast.. I seem to remember Mariss talking about testing a stepper that blew up at around 100,000rpm or something strange..:eek:]

Yeah, those GRex's are just the thing for stepper and servo driven turbines. You can direct drive and get right to the desired RPM's. Not sure what THOSE are just the thing for, however.
