Hi All,

I'm converting over my Taig CNC mini-mill to use a 1 HP 0-5000 RPM DC varispeed treadmill motor and was wondering about what kind of belt I should run. I want to run a 2:3 ratio from the motor to spindle to get a 2/3 HP 0-7500 RPM spindle. Another posibility is to do a step pulley design with a high and low setting to get more range, but I think 0-7500 RPM should be good.

I want to make the pulleys myself if at all possible, simplest idea being a 2" and 3" pulley with matching bores for spindle and motor. Should I stick to a V-belt? If so, what width and height would be suitable on this type of application? I was thinking maybe 1/4" to 3/8" width belt would work nicely.
